A distinctive single origin from the volcanic slopes of Mount Leuser, featuring clean, earthy flavors with spicy chocolate notes from one of the world’s most biodiverse regions.
Sumatra Mandheling comes from the volcanic slopes of Mount Leuser near the port of Padang in the Batak region of West-Central Sumatra. This exceptional single origin grows in what's considered one of the most ancient and biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, and that unique terroir comes through in every cup.
The coffee delivers clean, earthy flavors with distinctive spicy chocolate notes that showcase Sumatra's characteristic profile. The giling basah (wet hulled) processing method, followed by sun-drying, creates the full body and low acidity that Sumatran coffees are known for. Grown primarily from Catimor and Typica varieties, this coffee represents the best of what this legendary coffee region has to offer.
Our medium roast brings out the coffee's natural earthiness while preserving the clean finish and spicy chocolate complexity. At Cups, we've been sourcing and roasting exceptional single origins like this Sumatra Mandheling since 1994, carefully selecting beans that showcase the unique characteristics of their growing regions. This coffee offers a taste of one of the world's most distinctive coffee landscapes.
